Central and Western District Piano Tuning and Maintenance Information Beautiful music can cultivate temperament, and accurate pitch is the first step before learning and performing. Central and Western District covers Kennedy Town, Sai Tong, Sai Ying Pun, Sheung Wan, Central, Admiralty and Mid-Levels. It is one of the earliest areas in Hong Kong where music education developed, with many private piano studios, music centres and residential buildings. Common instruments include upright and grand pianos. 1. How the Local Environment Affects Pianos Some estates near the waterfront, such as Kennedy Town and Sai Ying Pun, experience greater humidity changes, especially during humid spring and rainy seasons. In Mid-Levels, sunlight angle and ventilation cause more noticeable temperature differences. Pianos are mainly composed of wood, felt and metal strings, and their pitch changes naturally with temperature and humidity. Therefore, regular piano tuning is an important part of keeping the instrument in good condition. 2. General Tuning Recommendations For home pianos, at least two to three regular tunings per year are recommended to maintain stable pitch and ensure even string tension. For concert halls and professional teaching pianos with higher usage, inspection and tuning before each important performance is recommended. 3. Importance of Piano Tuning If the played note does not match the correct note, the music will be unpleasant even without playing mistakes, and will cause obstacles to learning. For beginners, practicing on an out-of-tune piano damages aural training. Through professional piano tuning service, it helps maintain accurate pitch perception and extends the instrument's lifespan. 4.
